I was originally in the healthcare field. I wanted to become a physician, but then I shadowed in an ER and that was an experience amongst itself. Decided that was a no-go in many different ways. Um, I wanted to be closer to my patients. I wanted to have a more personal relationship, see them, their parents, their grandparents, their kids, kind of have that all around better relationship and then also be able to either work for someone who does what I do or be my own boss.
I did my undergrad at Winona State University up in Minnesota. And then I did my dental school at Creighton school of dentistry and I did a one-year residency at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and that was an experience cuz it was over CO. I practiced in South Dakota a little bit. um was really looking for more education, like how I would see these patients and they had something wrong with them, but I just didn’t know what I could do about it or how I could fix it. And so then I started hearing about Kois and I learned a little bit more about their theories and teachings. And so I emailed Dr. Nex and I said, “Hey, I just want to get your opinion on Kois. Um is it worth it?” I was living in South Dakota at the time. he is here in Iowa. Um I want an outsider’s perspective, someone who had done it before. And after I called or after we talked on the phone, um he goes, “Yep, it’s absolutely worth it. Um you should give it a shot.” So I’ve done a few courses through them right now. I have two more set up this next year and I’m loving it.
There’s a lot in kois that it’s not just about the teeth, it’s about the patient as well. Getting them to understand what’s going in their mouth on in their mouth is a big part of being able to do and present treatment. So it’s not just you see this tooth, this is what you do. It’s like you see this patient, you see their lifestyle, you see you connect with them and then present them with the options that they might want to address. So, it has helped me treat patients because I now I just see way more than a tooth or a problem. Like I see them as a whole and I can treat them well-roundedly.
Dr. Autumn Morgan Loves Improving Patients’ Smiles
Dr. Autumn Morgan pursued dentistry when she realized her pre-med course out of high school wasn’t quite right for her. Remembering her own positive experience with the dentist as a child, she took a harder look at the dental field. In 2019, she graduated from Creighton University. Then, she completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she treated medically complex and special needs patients
In 2022, Dr. Morgan joined our team at Dentistry At Somerset. She connects with patients easily and enjoys building relationships with them. She looks forward to treating them for the long run and improving their oral health throughout their life. Dr. Morgan believes in the importance of sharing your skills and talents in order to help those around you. She also values ongoing education and will follow in Dr. Niegsch’s footsteps by attending the Kois Center in Seattle, WA.
Dr. Morgan is a self-proclaimed extrovert who enjoys swapping stories and laughs with her patients. You may be surprised to discover she had a competitive gymnastics season at age 23 after her undergraduate years. She continued competing while working as a dentist. The sport gives her a lot of joy because she loves the raw athleticism that gymnastics requires.
When she’s not busy improving smiles, you might find Dr. Morgan spending time with her husband, Zach, and their new baby daughter, Mae. She also loves outdoor activities with their canine companions, Winston and Hamilton. Plus, she enjoys gardening and baking. You are welcome to ask her for some cookie baking tips!
Having recently relocated to the area, she has been very impressed with the opportunities and welcoming atmosphere in Ames. She looks forward to many years serving the patients of Dentistry At Somerset!
