I chose dentistry for quite a few reasons. I wanted a career in healthcare. I wanted something where I was helping people day to day. And dentistry has a little bit of everything that I want. I get to mix art and science together. I get to work with my hands. I get to talk to people every day. You know, I get to help people feel more comfortable at the dental office. I get to treat them on various procedures. So it just felt like the right fit right from the beginning.
I went to the University of Iowa. I majored in human physiology with a minor in American Sign Language, and then I went to the University of Iowa College of Dentistry afterwards. Ames is like the perfect town. It’s a little bit bigger than where I grew up and a little bit smaller maybe than what Iowa City is, but it just felt right exactly like home right when I got here. And, you know, taking a look at this office, and I came before everything was remodeled and looking as fantastic as it does. But, you know, I could see the vision Dr. Niegsch and Marcie had for this office. And so it just felt…it felt like the perfect fit. They made me feel like home, like I was at home, super comfortable. And I just saw how they treated their patients, and it’s the way I would wanna treat my patients. So it felt like a great fit.
I would say the most rewarding part of dentistry for me, well, two things. One, dentistry has the opportunity to have, you know, definitive care. If somebody comes in with pain, you know, before they leave that day, I could relieve some of their pain. And also, I love, you know, the fact that, you know, if people feel nervous or anxious to come to the office, I have the opportunity to help make them feel more comfortable. So when I can do both of those things, that is super, super rewarding.
